FRIDAY KHUTBA OF TOKYO CAMİİ “INHERITANCE: GIVING EVERY RIGHT HOLDER THEIR DUE SHARE“

Honorable Muslims!
One of the rights Islam places high emphasis on is the right to inheritance. Our religion has brought detailed provisions prescribing just and equitable share-out of inheritance, too, just as in every sphere of life. As a believer is on their journey to eternity, firstly the funeral costs are covered by the property left behind. Then, their debts, if any, are paid off. Then, their will concerning the share-out for those other than inheritors is executed on condition that such share-out will not exceed one third of the inheritance. After all these, the inheritance is inherited to the inheritors.

Dear Muslims!
It is essential that each right holder be given their due share and no right holder, regardless of gender and age, suffer any unjust distribution of the inheritance. In this respect, after setting out the ruling related to inheritance, Allah (swt) warns us as follows, “These are the limits [set by] Allah, and whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be admitted by Him to gardens [in Paradise] under which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein; and that is the great attainment. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits – He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment.”^[１]

Dear Believers!
Let us not forget that inheritance is something entrusted and that there is a delicate line between inheritance and human rights. Let us never cross that line by falling for our ambitions. Let us show due diligence to mercifulness, conscientiousness, justice and equity when it comes to inheritance.
